    Submission requirements
    Word length TBA
Format There are strict formatting requirements with which students are required to comply. The unit coordinator reserves the right to refuse to mark assignments that are not submitted in accordance with formatting requirements:
§  Ensure your full name and student number appears on the footer of each page.
§  Do not manipulate the margins of the page.
§  Conform to a standard size and type of font such as 11.5-12 point fonts in Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman.
§  Assignments must be one and a half spaced or double spaced.
    §  Number all pages consecutively.
§  Students must use footnotes in accordance with the AGLC.
§  Do not provide a bibliography.
Referencing Assignments must be referenced in accordance with the Melbourne University Law Review Association, Australian Guide to Legal Citation (Melbourne University Law Review Association Inc, 3rd ed, 2010). This guide is available electronically at:
Electronic submission/ Turnitin Students are required to keep a hard copy and electronic copy of all written work which is submitted. The assignment must be submitted electronically via the Public International Law Assignment Turnitin link on the vUWS site for this unit. Please read the Turnitin Instruction Manual prior to submission. Students may not hand in hard copies. No other method of assignment submission will be accepted. Further information in regard to the submission of the assignment will be posted in the assessment folder of the vUWS page.
Assignment cover sheet Please do NOT affix an Assignment Cover Sheet to your assignment. By uploading a submission into Turnitin students certify that: (1) they hold a copy of the assignment if the original is lost or damaged; (2) no part of this assignment or product has been copied from any other student’s work or from any other source except where due acknowledgement is made in the assignment; (3) no part of the assignment/product has been written/produced for the student by any other person except where collaboration has been authorised by the unit lecturer concerned; and (4) they are aware that this work may be reproduced and submitted to plagiarism detection software programs for the purpose of detecting possible plagiarism which may retain a copy on its database for future plagiarism checking).
Late submission Late assignments must be submitted to the Public International Law Late Assignment Turnitin link on the vUWS site for this unit. No other method of late assignment submission will be accepted.
A student who submits a late assessment without approval for an extension will be penalised by 10% per day up to 10 days, i.e. marks equal to 10% of the assignment’s weight will be deducted as a ‘flat rate’ from the mark awarded. For example, as the assignment has a possible highest mark of 30, the student’s awarded mark will have 3 marks deducted for each late day. Saturday and Sunday are counted as two days. Assessments will not be accepted after the marked assessment task has been returned to students who submitted the task on time.
Extension of due date for submission The assignment is to be submitted to Turnitin by the prescribed due date and appointed time. Extensions will only be granted in the event of serious illness or serious misadventure (proved to the satisfaction of the unit coordinator) that prevents you from completing the assessment by the due date.
If students need to apply for a short extension of time to complete an assessment item, they should complete the form available on vUWS. This form needs to be submitted three days before the due date of the assignment. An application for an extension does not automatically mean that an extension will be approved.
Where special consideration is sought for circumstances involving more than three consecutive days or more than five days within a teaching period, students should complete a application available through eForms via MyUWS.

Applications for an extension must be sent to IBL@uws.edu.au directly. Applications that are filed late or that do not have supporting documentation/evidence will be rejected.
    Resubmission
Thereareno resubmissions ofassignmentsor other work inthisunit.
    Return of assessment material
Assignments will be returned as soon as possible, allowing time for marking and moderation for a very large group. This is expected to take at least four (4) weeks after submission. You will be kept advised regularly on vUWS about the progress of the process (i.e. please refrain from asking your tutors or emailing about this if at all possible!). Please bear in mind that marking and moderation forlaw papers is very time-consuming - much more so than for some other Units / types of assessment. The moderation process is explained in more detail in the FAQs on vUWS.

Assignments marked electronically will be emailed back to you when the marks are finalised at your UWS email account. Hard copy assignments (for those required to submit these) will be returned in your tutorial in the relevant week (which will be advised on vUWS and in lectures) or, after that week, from the Law Reception offices at Campbelltown (Building 22) and Parramatta (Building EK) for students registered in tutorials on those campuses. All assignments for students registered for Penrith tutorials will be returned in your classes. For privacy reasons assignments cannot be returned to other students, and you will be required to identify yourself (UWS Student Card) when collecting your papers, whether this is in class, or from Reception. Alternatively, an appropriately sized, stamped, self-addressed envelope can be attached to your assignment at the time of submission, and your marked assignment will be returned to you via post if not collected in class.
